Photo Cosmo Aletto1992 Melbourne, come-back kid Jan Lammers after a ten year absence from F1, made a short re-appearence in grand pric racing. At Suzuka, his first race, Jan makes quite an impression in the wet qualifying session, putting down 6th. time! However, during the race he had to retire with a broken gearbox. At Melbourne, he at least finished 12th., however, as he wanted to continue with the team the following year, it didn ‘t happen. Tragic that his career was hampered with bad luck and wrong decisions, starting signing for Shadow and paying 1.6 million Dutch guilders for it. Lotus chose his team mate de Angelis (who used 1979 to save some money!). ATS, Ensign and Theodore followed, and oppertunities at Brabham (money and politics), Renault (Prost fit in time) and, his biggest chance, Ferrari, after Villeneuve ‘s death. He broke his thumb at Detroit in the Theodore and Tambay got the chance… I think he payed most of his well earned money (Group C, etc.) for those two drives, but has no regrets!
